Complaints Against Registrants of Other Regulatory Colleges
91ÁÔÆæ can only deal with complaints against its own registrants. If there are concerns about a registrant of another profession, it is appropriate to contact that professional’s own College. A listing of the various health Colleges can be found on the website of the . At times, 91ÁÔÆæ receives complaints about psychiatrists. Psychiatrists are medical doctors and are regulated by the , which can be reached at (416) 967-2600 or (800) 268-7096.Â
Complaints Against Unregulated Practitioners
Under current legislation, anyone can refer to themselves as a counselor or therapist. These individuals may be unregulated providers rather than registrants of a regulatory health college. Unregulated practitioners cannot use the titles Psychologist, Psychological Associate, or Behaviour Analyst, or use the terms psychologyÌý´Ç°ùÌýpsychological, or any abbreviation of those words in any title, designation or description of services offered or provided. Under the  the use of these titles and terms is restricted to 91ÁÔÆæ registrants. if you have concerns about an unregulated practitioner, you may contact the employer of that individual, seek legal advice, or contact 91ÁÔÆæ. We will investigate and take appropriate steps to address this.
Other Situations Which the Law Does Not Authorize the College to Address
- Obtaining funds from a registrant as a result of a financial loss suffered;Â
- Employment or labour relations’ difficulties not addressed by professional standards or laws governing the profession.
Additionally, while 91ÁÔÆæ may address the practices of a registrant, it cannot substitute its judgment for the professional judgement of a registrant. 91ÁÔÆæ does not have the authority to direct a registrant to change a particular professional opinion or report.Â
